Blue Streaks Compete In Final Last Chance Meets Before NCAA Championship Racing

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois & ALLIANCE, Ohio - This week, the men competed at two last chance meets to earn new qualifying marks to the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. 

The team is looking to put the final performances together to wrap up the regular season on the 2023-2024 track & field season before the last meet of the year approaches.

Senior Caleb Correia raced at the Augustana Midwest Twilight Qualifier in Rock Island, Illinois this past Wednesday in the 800 meter run. Correia clocked in at 1:51.34, placing 13th overall in the race. 

Most of the team traveled to Alliance, Ohio the next day for the Mount Union Last Chance Meet. A several amount of Blue Streaks were looking to get in solid efforts before qualifying marks would get announced. 

To get the day started, in the men's high jump, Luke Frazier would win the high jump with a mark of 2.01 meters. George Wilson would earn himself a new personal best with a mark of 1.81 meters, placing eighth overall. 

In the men's 400 meter dash, freshman Tim Herczog would lead the way for the Blue Streaks placing seventh overall with a time of 50.36 seconds, followed by Victor Ononogbo placing eighth, finishing with a time of 50.46 seconds. 

The men's 800 meter run was an exciting race as sophomore Ian Paul would notch his third consecutive personal best, competing in three races in the span of one week. Paul would run 1:51.84 placing second overall. Caleb Correia would give one last effort in the 800 meter run after competing at Augustana the day before and run 1:53.30 placing sixth. 

Senior Mick Doyle would make an appearance in the men's 400 meter hurdles and place fifth overall with a time of 54.40 seconds to finish out the day for JCU. 

The Blue Streaks will now await for final selections to be announced for the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina The meet will take place Thursday-Saturday, May 23-25 at Doug Shaw Stadium. Final selections/marks will be announced tonight at 8:00 PM on NCAA.com.
