Ty Daugherty helped JCU get out to a fiery start, wrestling at 141 for the first time this year

WESTERVILLE – A busy weekend began on an important note for John Carroll Men's Wrestling on Friday evening.

The Blue Streaks headed down I-271 and I-71 to Westerville to face off with Otterbein University, continuing Ohio Athletic Conference action. It was a strong start for the Blue & Gold.

John Carroll cruised to a 36-13 victory, roaring for an 18-0 start that sustained JCU against an Otterbein team known for its middleweights. With the win, JCU ups its record in league duals to 4-2.

After Jack Stanley accepted a forfeit win, Alex Crane got a shot at 133 pounds after impressing during exhibition matches last weekend vs. OAC foes. The Thornville, Ohio native fought past his foe for a 10-4 decision.

Wrestling up to 141, Ty Daugherty eked past a stout opponent with a 10-8 decision. Kyle Bizjak then kept the good times going with a first-period pin, extending the lead to 18-0.

Otterbein threatened to make it a match again, with back-to-back-to-back wins to trim the margin to five, 18-13. However, back-to-back pins by Wills Bronson (184) and Jesse Kanatzar (197) within the first two minutes of their bouts took a comeback out of the question.

Jacob Holtz finished things off with a victory at the heavyweight spot, as the North Olmsted native won in a match decided by injury in the first minute.
