LEWISBURG, Pennsylvania & ALLIANCE, Ohio – Solid performances went all across the board for the John Carroll Women's Track & Field team as they took on their second straight split squad weekend of the outdoor season. 

This past weekend, a small contingent of Blue Streaks traveled to Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania for the Bison Outdoor Classic on Saturday, April 12th, while the rest of the team competed on Sunday, April 13th at the John Homon Open hosted by the University of Mount Union. 

Due to weather conditions, the John Homon Open was moved to Sunday.

At Bucknell, the distance group of Alyssa Vis, Annie Higgins, Abby Schroff, and Anne Rea competed in the events ranging from the 1500 to the 5000 meter.

To kick off the meet, Vis and Higgins would make an appearance in the invite section of the 1500 meter run. Vis would run 4:40.55, while Higgins would finish with a time of 4:40.80. Both would finish 46th and 49th individually. For Annie, it was a two second personal best. 

Next, the duo of Rea and Schroff would compete in the invite section of the 5000 meter run and run personal bests in both races. Abby would finish 48th overall with a time of 17:17.79, while Anne would finish 68th overall with a time of 17:35.16. 

On Sunday, April 13th, the team competed at Mount Union for the John Homon Open. 

To get the day started, in the field events, first year Dakota Houston would win the women's long jump with a new mark of 5.77 meters. Another stellar performance for the first year out of Beachwood, Ohio. 

In the women's high jump, senior Emmy Bryan would secure a third place finish with a mark of 1.52 meters. 

The women's hammer throw was well-represented as junior Sarah Hart would lead the way for the Blue Streaks, placing 12th overall with a mark of 44.38 meters. Cara Jewett (43.85 meters), Breanna Berwald (39.33 meters), and Molly Drenik (36.50 meters) would place in the top 40. For Drenik, it was a new personal best. 

First year Lily Shahan would become the second first year on the women's side to break a school record this track & field season. Shahan would throw 40.61 meters (133" 2'), placing first overall for the Blue Streaks. She is now ranked 13th in Division III with that mark and breaks an eight year old school record, held previously by Nicole Pilewski in 2017. 

To kick off the running events, junior Sydney Wingler would win the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:59.83 in her first time competing in the event. 

The women's 4x100 meter relay was an exciting one as the team of Mia Scott, Sandra King, Paige Munchick, and Dakota Houston would break the school record by .03 seconds, running 46.76 seconds and get the victory. The relay is now ranked seventh in Division III. 

In the women's 1500 meter run, the duo of Sam Goodnough (4:49.29) and Kelsey Sheridan (4:49.52) would finish first and second overall for the Blue Streaks. Sophomore Taylor Jasinski would follow as she would place 12th overall with a time of 5:12.75. It was a personal best for Sheridan. 

Four athletes would earn new personal bests in the 400 meter dash including Sandra King (57.63 seconds), Paige Munchick (59.17 seconds), Kaleigh McNamara (1:00.05), and Alexis Berwald (1:04.70). They would all place in the top 25. 

In the women's 800 meter run, senior Ellie Kitsmiller would be the first Blue Streak to cross the finish line as she would run 2:21.93, placing fourth overall. The next three runners would be Emmaline Hannan (2:22.97), Kylie Bennington (2:25.44), and Morgan Dobos (2:26.45). They would place fifth, seventh, and eighth overall. For Hannan and Bennington, it was a new personal best. 

Next up for the Blue Streaks is another split squad weekend. A small group of the sprinters will be traveling to Atlanta, Georgia for the Georgia Tech Invitational and the rest of the team will be competing at the Sparky Adams Invitational hosted by Baldwin Wallace next Friday to Saturday, April 18th-19th.
