Women’s Track & Field Performs In Last Chance Meets At Augustana & Mount Union

Blue Streaks Compete At Augustana & Mount Union In Last Chance Meets Before Next Week's National Championships
ROCK ISLAND, Illinois & ALLIANCE, Ohio – In their last week of the regular season, the women competed and ran several seasonal best performances in a couple of last chance meets.

A small group of the women traveled to the Midwest Twilight Final Qualifier hosted by Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois on Wednesday, May 14th. Another group competed in Alliance, Ohio for the Mount Union Last Chance Meet on Thursday, May 15th.

To get the week started, at Augustana, in the women's 1500 meter run, the duo of Alyssa Vis (4:31.47) and Abby Schroff (4:44.71) would place fifth and 14th overall. The performance from Vis would be a new personal best in the event. Schroff would later return for the women's 5000 meter run as she would place second overall with a time of 17:58.41. 

Senior Annie Higgins would also earn a new personal best in the women's 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:01.67. This would be an eight second personal best for Higgins as thai was her second ever appearance in the steeplechase. 

At the University of Mount Union, the field events would kick off first as the duo of Lily Shahan and Leah Fritsch would compete in the women's javelin throw. 

Fritsch would place seventh overall with a mark of 35.09 meters, while Shahan placed eighth overall, earning a mark of 34.87 meters. 

In the women's long jump, Dakota Houston would place third overall with a mark of 5.67 meters.

Moving on to the running events, first year Sandra King would compete in the women's 400 meter dash as she would win the event with a time of 57.62 meters, just missing her personal best by a second. 

The trio of Mia Scott (12.06 seconds), Kaleigh McNamara (12.80 seconds), and Alexis Berwald (13.19 seconds) would all earn new personal bests in the 100 meter dash final. 

In the women's 800 meter run, Morgan Dobos would make an appearance as she would place second overall with a time of 2:22.42. 

Paige Munchick would place high in the women's 200 meter dash, earning second overall with a time of 25.34 seconds.

Several performances were made throughout the week as the women will now ride that momentum going into the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships held at Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The meet will take place on Thursday to Saturday, May 22-24. Meet information and qualifications will be announced on Sunday, May 18th in the evening.
