VonLehmden notched medalist honors at the Ted Barclay Invitational

CLEVELAND -- A strong start in a new era gives way to the first weekly award in John Carroll's new conference, the North Coast Athlete Conference's Athlete of the Week for the first time.

After splitting the team to cover two tournaments, the John Carroll "A" team not only took home a team victory in the Ted Barclay Invitational, but a medalist.

Justy VonLehmden is the NCAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week.

The junior was the second best in the field after the first day, connecting for three consecutive birdies in the front nine. He finished with a 69 (-2) on Saturday.

VonLehmden, originally from Findlay and studying Finance, faced hardships on the second day, but capped off the day by securing a 73 and winning the tournament by one stroke. VonLehmden claimed his first medalist honor of his career with the victory.

With this great honor and an early victory, VonLehmden and the Blue Streaks begin the season from the top of the mountain. This comes after a conference crown in the spring as well as an NCAA Championship appearance.

John Carroll will look forward to their next competition at the Mount Union Fall Invitational on September 13.
