Blue Streaks close out nonconference play with impressive victory over River Otters

Box Score UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The John Carroll women's lacrosse team stays hot by winning its fourth-straight match by defeating Lewis & Clark College 19-5 on Wednesday night.

The first period started off nearly perfect for JCU as Anna Vaccarelli scored 16 seconds into the match. Lewis and Clark would answer shortly after tying the score at 1-1. However, that would be the last time the game would be tied, as JCU would score four-straight goals to close out the first period.

The Blue and Gold offense continued to dominate in the second period, as Mary Grace Godleski found the back of the net off a quick transition from Mea Musillo.

John Carroll enjoyed the fast-break score, as Godleski would find Riley Knapp for a quick goal 24 seconds later to give JCU a 7-1 advantage.

Knapp scored her second goal of the evening by scoring off a quick pass from Vaccarelli. The junior would complete the hat-trick at the 9:02 mark by scoring off a free-position attempt.

At the break, JCU held a 12-2 lead and owned a 21-5 edge on total shots. The Blue and Gold defensive forced an impressive 12 turnovers, including eight in the first period.

In the third period, the Blue Streaks defense stepped up and forced four turnovers. JCU scored quickly in the period to add insurance goals to ensure a running clock after going up by 10 goals, as Spitzer found the back of the net.

With the game in hand, Kenzie Krom and Vivian Rung added to the Blue Streaks total in the fourth period.

Leading the way for John Carroll in points was the trio of Spizter (6), Vaccarelli (6), and Knapp (5). As a squad, JCU had 20 successful clears and scored three goals on four free-position shoots.
