2014-15 OAC Winter Sports Championship Preview: Women's Basketball

The John Carroll University women's basketball team is just two games away from accomplishing a feat never before achieved in program history: an Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Championship.

Following an NCAA Tournament appearance last year, the Blue Streaks enjoyed another memorable season in 2014-15. The Blue and Gold finished the regular season with a 22-3 overall record and 15-3 mark in OAC play. Head coach Kelly Morrone's team was unbeaten at home in the regular season for the first time since 1976-77 as JCU notched a record of 12-0 in the friendly confines of the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.

The Blue and Gold's regular season dominance grants them the right to begin postseason play at home as the number two seed. JCU will host 3 seed Baldwin Wallace on Thursday evening to commence play in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament. Baldwin Wallace was an 85-64 winner over 6 seed Heidelberg in the quarterfinal round Tuesday evening.

The Blue Streaks won both meetings with the Yellow Jackets (19-6, 14-4 OAC) during the regular season for the first time since the 1992-93 season. JCU downed Baldwin Wallace in Berea, 62-52, and in University Heights, 75-72.

In the all-time series, BW holds a distinct advantage, 48-24. BW also holds a significant advantage in the OAC Tournament, winning five of the six meetings in the postseason, though JCU's lone win came in the last meeting. The Blue Streaks downed the Yellow Jackets in the quarterfinal round of the tournament, 74-60, on Februrary 22, 2011.

The winner of this game would face either #4 seed Capital or #1 seed Ohio Northern on Saturday, February 28 at a time and site to be determined.

JCU is playing in its 26th consecutive OAC Tournament since joining the league in 1989-90. While the Blue Streaks have never won it all, the team has enjoyed some success, recording a 14-25 record.

As long as JCU hosts a game in the tournament, the sports information department will provide live video and live stats
