The honor is a career first for the JCU Men's Wrestling star

WESTERVILLE — The Ohio Athletic Conference awarded its athlete of the week award in wrestling to sophomore Will Bronson.

Bronson had a massive week for John Carroll Men's Wrestling, winning the 184 pound bracket at the Pete Willson Invitational in Wheaton, Illinois.

The Memphis, Tennessee native started the weekend with a quick pin in the first period and a 12-4 major decision in his first two matches. In his third match, Bronson defeated the nation's #6 ranked wrestler, Cael McLaren from Cornell College (Iowa). With just 3 seconds left in the first period, Bronson notched an impressive pin over the strong foe.

The going did not get easier for Bronson, as he then faced another ranked opponent. All the Christian Brothers alum did was dominate the #4 ranked grappler in Region 3, Ryder Slayton, rolling to a 9-1 major decision to seal the victory. Bronson finished the weekend with a perfect 5-0 record.

Bronson and the rest of the Blue Streaks conclude OAC dual action tomorrow night against Wilmington College at 7 pm in DeCarlo Varsity Center.
