While attending John Carroll University in 1974 and 1975, Charles R. Becks was national runner up at 150 pounds in the 1974 Division III national wrestling tournament and won the NCAA Division III national crown in 1975.

The impact of Becks on the school’s only national championship team is measured by the fact that, without him, the Blue Streaks would not have won the 1975 NCAA Division III wrestling title.  As one of a record four national champions that year (joining 134-pounder Mark Hawald, 177-pounder Brad Bowman and heavyweight Joe Bertolone), John Carroll would score 111 points to hold off Montclair State (96 points) for the title.

Becks posted a 32-9-2 record in two seasons as a starter with the Blue Streaks, helping his team finish the 1974 NCAA Division III Championships in second place before claiming the 1975 crown.

He won Presidents' Athletic Conference titles in 1974 and 1975, and captured first place at the 1974 National Catholic Invitational.
