Matt Nortz was a 10-time All-OAC runner, 4-time OAC champion, and the Most Outstanding Track Athlete at the 1993 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
A consistent standout in indoor and outdoor track & field as well as cross country, Nortz helped JCU finish fifth or better in both indoor and outdoor seasons in each of his final three years. At the 1993 OAC Indoor Championships, Nortz won 500- and 1000-meter runs to earn Most Outstanding Track Athlete. His 500m time of 1:05.63 was an OAC record. At the 1993 OAC Outdoor Championships, he won both the 800m and 1500m.
Additionally, Nortz earned All-OAC four times in the 4x400 (3rd, 1993 Outdoor; 3rd, 1993 Indoor, 2nd, 1991 Outdoor; 2nd, 1991 Indoor) and twice in the 800m (2nd, 1992 Outdoor; 2nd, 1992 Indoor).
