Platz was a four year starter and letter winner for the Blue Streaks, playing tackle on both offense and defense. He helped lead JCU to a PAC championship in 1969.
He was a Three-time All-PAC selection at defensive tackle and became the fifth player in JCU history to be named All-PAC first team three times. Platz was also named to the All-Era team in Autumn Days of Blue and Gold for his contribution to the impressivle Blue Streaks football team in the late 60'sÂ
