James “Jimmy” Spagna was a star first baseman and starting pitcher for the JCU Baseball team. A two-time All-American, Spagna posted an excellent resume for the program, as he ended his career ranked third all-time in runs batted in (RBI) with 127 and tied for third in home runs with 13. As a pitcher, Spagna started in 26 games and threw 129 innings with a 4.40 career ERA and four complete games. As a senior in 2014, he helped lead the Blue Streaks to their first OAC Tournament Championship and first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1984. Spagna earned First Team All-OAC honors after posting a program-record 53 RBIs. That season, he was named a D3baseball.com Third Team All-American and became just the third ABCA All-American in program history. In 2013, Spagna garnered Honorable Mention All-American, First Team All-Mideast Region and First Team All-OAC accolades. He was also a Second Team honoree in 2012 after his best season on the mound, as he posted a 3.25 ERA in a career-high 69.1 innings of work with 13 starts, which tied the program record.
