Cubero was part of Blue Streaks squads that went 26-8 overall during his final three seasons. In 2002, he was a first-team All-OAC selection, compiling a team-leading 149 tackles. Cubero was also a consensus All-American, earning first-team nods from Football Gazette and Hewlett Packard while getting a second team honor from D3Football.com.
He was the leader of the defense that helped John Carroll capture the East Region and reach the national semifinals of the 2002 NCAA Division III Championship, posting a record of 12-2.
Off the field, he earned first-team Academic All-OAC in 2001 and honorable mention in 2002. He was the recipient of the Clyde Lamb Scholar Athlete Award the next season.
