Brickman was the Blue Streaks Varsity quarterback from 1927-29.  After the 3-2-3 record John Carroll posted in 1927, the Blue Streaks went 6-3 in 1928.  Although Brickman was plagued with injury, he started in the Homecoming Game against Davis & Elkins who had beat Navy and West Virginia earlier in the season.  John Carroll knocked them off with a 2-0 win.

Following the strong 1928 season, Brickman returned to direct the offense in 1929.  He was key in the 90-0 route over Valparaiso in the season opener and the 33-0 win over Adrian the following week.  They broke even the rest of the season and finished with a 5-3-1 record.  He is regarded as one of the finest quarterbacks in Ohio from the time, and was called the best quarterback in John Carroll history by The Plain Dealer during his playing days.

Brickman was named to "The Pre-War Era" team that was complied from the 1920-1942 seasons as quarterback.
