Richard (Bud) Walsh was an end and team captain of the first John Carroll football squad in 1920.  That year, he scored the first touchdown in the first game in school history, a 7-2 victory over Hiram.

Walsh ended up leading the team in scoring that season in which the Blue Streaks went 4-2.  For his efforts, he was named to the Cleveland Plain Dealer's All-Cuyahoga team.

Shortly after graduation, Walsh entered the seminary and later became the rector at St. John's Cathedral in Cleveland for over two decades.

He became a charter member of the JCU Athletic Hall of Fame on December 9th, 1964.

In 1995, Walsh was named to the "Pre-War Era" team (1920-1942) as part of the 75th anniversary of JCU football.
