Ray Maria was an All-PAC and All-American center for John Carroll.
A three-year letterwinner, Maria helped JCU achieve winning records in 1959-60 (13-5) and in 1961-62 (10-8). Maria starred in his senior season, leading the team with 21.8 points per game.
Maria set the school record for most points in a game by scoring 45 points vs. Allegheny on February 20, 1962. In that game, Maria shot 14-of-26 from the floor and 17-of-22 from the free throw line, adding 19 rebounds.
On January 6, 1962, Maria tied the JCU single-game record for free throws made (19) and broke the record for free throw attempts (27). Following his final campaign, Maria earned First Team All-PAC honors, as well as All-Catholic All-American distinction.Â
