Peggy Dempsey competed as a Blue Streak for two seasons, and what she did in those two seasons was Hall of Fame worthy. As a senior, she finished 15th in the 500 Free at nationals to earn honorable mention All-America status. She also qualified nationally for the 100 Free and 200 Free her senior year. As a junior, Dempsey was a national qualifier in three races, finishing 18th, 19th and 25th, respectively, in the 1650 Free, 200 Free and 500 Free.

On the conference level, Dempsey was dominant, winning titles in 11 of a possible 14 events in 1995 and 1996. She was a perfect seven-for-seven as a senior, posting victories in the finals of the 200 Free, 500 Free, 1650 Free, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay, 800 Free Relay and the 400 Medley Relay. She set then-conference records in the 800 Free Relay and 400 Medley Relay as a senior, and in the 500 Free and 1650 Free her junior year. The team won the OAC Championship her junior and senior years and was 17-4 in dual meets, including 8-0 against conference opponents.

Dempsey graduated with four school records and was named the team's Most Valuable Swimmer twice.
