Jason Kessen was a three-time national qualifier and an All-American wrestler for the Blue Streaks. A three-time Ohio Athletic Conference placewinner, Kessen helped John Carroll capture the 1994 OAC Championship. In 1994, Kessen finished as the OAC’s runner-up at 150 pounds and qualified for the national meet. In 1996, he again qualified for nationals. In 1997, he nabbed OAC runner-up honors at 158 pounds and broke through for an All-American finish at the national championships, finishing fifth. In addition, he notched a 5-0 record at the national duals as a senior, helping JCU finish second in the country. Kessen was named the team’s Most Valuable Wrestler in 1997. He captured Academic All-American honors in 1994, 1996, and 1997. Kessen completed his career with 89 victories (then tied for seventh in program history), including a 7-6 record at the NCAA Tournament.
