Hall of Fame
Mike Moran has been a highly successful mentor of the John Carroll University men’s basketball and men's golf program since assuming those duties on May 29, 1992.
In 18 years of basketball under Moran, the Blue Streaks have won nine Ohio Athletic Conference regular season championships, three OAC Tournaments, and have appeared in the NCAA Division III playoffs on ten occasions. In nine different years, his team have posted at least 20 wins. His 2009 squad won a school record 21 consecutive games, which was also one shy of the all-time Ohio Athletic Conference record.
Among his collegiate honors are being named OAC Coach of the Year in 1994, 1998, 2003, 2009, and 2010, and Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year in 1998 and 1999. A total of 45 of his players have earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors and five have earned all-region accolades. Moran has also had 14 players selected to the Academic All-OAC team, and of his charges earned Academic All-America honors.
Moran, the most victorious coach in John Carroll’s history, owns a record of 329-169, including a mark of 204-106 (.658) in Ohio Athletic Conference regular games. He is one of just 16 coaches in the 100-year history of the league to win 200 games at an Ohio Athletic Conference institution, and his winning percentage places among the top 15 all-time in that category as well.
In addition to his basketball duties, Moran has served as the men’s golf coach at John Carroll for 18 years. Moran has guided the Blue Streaks to a berth in the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships four times (placing third twice and fourth once). Moran’s teams have also captured four OAC titles as well, earning him Conference Coach of the Year accolades three times. Moran has also coached over 25 JCU golfers to All-OAC honors.
