Luke Adkins, from the class of 2004, was the first John Carroll baseball player to earn the Kent Tekulve Award winner as the Ohio Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year, doing so at the conclusion of the 2004 campaign. It was a year in which he also merited a spot on the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Midwest Region 2nd team.

A four-year letter winner, Adkins is one of five pitchers in program history with 200+ strikeouts (218), one of four pitchers with 20 career wins (21) and had the lowest career ERA (3.07) for a full-time starting pitcher in JCU history at the time of his graduation (still ranks third).

A first team All-OAC selection in 2004 as well as an honorable mention selection in 2003, Adkins was the Blue Streaks' number on starter for three years. He twice pitched in OAC Tournaments (2001 and 2004), was the Schweickert Award winner as Team MVP in 2004, and was the 2001 Recipient of Cheyfitz-Wright Award as JCU Rookie of the Year.
