David Gibbons was a four year letter winner in men's basketball who played in 92 games as a Blue Streak and started just 12. His skill set enabled Mike Moran's famed "platoon system" to take hold and helped the program reach unprecedented heights.
In his final two season, Gibbons played an integral role in the Blue Streaks capturing the 2003 OAC regular season & Tournament championships and the 2004 OAC Regular Season and Tournament championships.
In 2003, John Carroll was an NCAA qualifier, reaching the round of 32. The next year, the Blue Streaks made a historic run to the Division III national semifinals and finished third in the nation.
Coming off the bench to lead the second platoon did not hinder Gibbons in terms of individual accolades. He was named 2004 D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region 2nd team, 2004 All-OAC first team, 2003 All-OAC 1st team and was a member of the 2003 OAC All-Tournament team. He was also chosen as the JCU team Most Valuable Player in 2004.
