Chris Wenzler devoted his professional life to the advancement of the John Carroll University Department of Athletics.
As Sports Information Director, he was a tireless advocate of the University and its varsity intercollegiate teams. His work impacted thousands of student athletes, parents, and alumni. Â
Four months after graduating from John Carroll in 1990, Wenzler was named Sports Information Director. Over three decades, Wenzler transformed a small office into a state-of-the-art operation that leveraged new technologies to provide high-quality coverage of the Blue Streaks. Notably, he was one of the first directors at the NCAA Division III level to produce a full webcast schedule. He did so while empowering generations of work-study students to learn the craft.
Beyond his work in sports information, Wenzler impacted countless lives in his devotion to living the University's mission through service.
In 2018, he earned the Bob Kenworthy Community Service Award from CoSIDA and the Bill Nichols Award from the OAC, which recognized his contributions to the community and his profession.
In 2020, shortly after his untimely death, the OAC Athletics Council adopted the Wenzler Award which will annually recognize one sports information student assistant at an OAC school who possesses a similar spirit that Wenzler embodied.
Wenzler was posthumously inducted into the CoSIDAÂ Hall of Fame in 2021.
