Dickason was a two-sport standout for John Carroll in the mid-to-late 1980's. In the sport of football, Dickason was a three-time all-conference punter in football, leading the PAC in punting in both 1985 and 1987. The Greenville, Pennsylvania native notched Honorable Mention All-American honors from the Associated Press in 1985, and then again in 1987, this time on the Pizza Hut All-America Honorable Mention list. Dickason was the first specialist in program history to garner All-America accolades.

As a pitcher for the Blue Streaks baseball team, Dickason was a first team All-PAC pitcher in 1988 and was selected as the conference Most Valuable Pitcher award winner. The year before, he had earned honorable mention status.

In all, Dickason was a seven-time letterwinner (four in baseball, three in football), and graduated as the school's record holder for field goals made in a game and season, and for punting average in a season and career.
