James “Jim” Moran became the first John Carroll Football to be drafted into the NFL following a strong career with the Blue Streaks. His JCU career began in 1942, but Moran soon enlisted in the Navy for World War II, playing for the Fleet City Blue Jackets during his enlistment. Upon his return, he earned a spot on the honor roll in 1946. As a junior in 1947, Moran played a key role in a record-breaking offense, accounting for 410 receiving yards of Bob Kilfoyle's then-record 1,044 passing yards. Moran notched 18 receptions and 6 touchdowns, including scores of 54 and 73 yards. Additionally, he tabbed 45 carries for 258 yards. On defense, Moran topped the team with 5 interceptions. On special teams, he returned 11 kickoffs for 258 yards. As a senior in 1948, Moran led the team in receiving yards with 287 yards, adding five touchdowns, including a 91 yarder. He also ran for 235 yards across 44 carries, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. Moran was selected by the Chicago Bears in the 18th Round of the 1949 NFL Draft.
