A four-year letter winner and two-time national qualifier for the Blue Streaks at 190 pounds. The former wrestler concluded his career with a record of 52-17-1, earning All-America honors in 1976 with a fifth place finish at Nationals.
His 52 victories ranked ninth best on the all-team JCU win list at the time of his graduation. Hinkel posted a 19-1 career record against Presidents’ Athletic Conference opponents, helping him win conference titles in 1976 and 1977.
